Giriz PIA 2006
Prakalp were compelled do (only) Hindi covers...
The band was initially welcomed as 'orchestra vaale aale'...
Anyways... the sound system was for an orchestra and not a rock band but luckily the sound guy was familiar with rockers...
with guitar and drums around who can stop Prakalp from making some good music...
the evening commenced with a good one hour dosage of ghazals while the band members strolled, rolled and drooled backstage...
then came the moment... entering in what do they see!!!
Aunties and uncles in extremely formal attires looking at the 'laamb kes vaale'....
Anant did pretty good at untaming the tamed crowd to some extent...
they kick started the show with 'Sayonee' and that was enough of a hint to the crowd as to what was coming up! And yes, thankfully, they liked it!
What followed were some more songs by Jal and Junoon including 'Aadat'(which made people clap (and cheer)) Prakalp's original 'Main Chala' was a heart winner. Lots of appreciation from the otherwise indifferent crowd... after they performed 'Baras' they geared up for their latest original ‘Maut’... the song being a bit too heavy for the occasion was a challenge for Anant and his troopers... and for Gavril(their featuring keyboardist) especially , given that it was his first gig... but the beats and tempo of the song made the aunts and uncs nod their heads in appreciation.... the ultimate moment was when Anant and Vincent did superb black metal antics on stage during Maut... later at the end of the show Anant apologized to the people for the antics saying "we are not satanic but perfectly normal people"... and looks like the crowd found it funny since they applauded..*sigh*... After the show many new found fans kept coming up to the band to congratulate and thank them... and yes... one visitor walked up and said... "You guys shoulddddd have played ‘We Will Rock You!’" *sigh again*
